Gharara 101

Going Old School and Voluminous

Ladies and…ladies! Put your hands together for the airy and the super comfy GHARARA! Ghararas are majorly trending and we are loving the variety they provide to the wardrobe in the bottoms department. Ghararas are no more the staple that you sport on your maayun or mehndi function. It is also no more the 1942 old-fashioned clothing item dadi jaan wore in her first ever black and white family picture. On the contrary, the gharara is hot, it’s fashionable, it’s ethnic and it is THE number to own this season.

So, how about a little lesson on how you can fully enjoy the revival of the beloved gharara? Get your cup of tea ready and your feet up on the couch, girlfriends! It is tutorial time.

The coolest way to do the gharara look is to go for it the casual way. It does not have to be laden with dabka and moti work. You can wear it during the day and enjoy the room and the comfort. They are so easy breezy!Best part? No one will be able to see the extra kilos you put on during the pakora-samosa-month that we call Ramzan! We saw a few celebrities sporting the lovely gharara on Eid and they looked great. Take a look.

How to rock the look?

Top it up with white

We love printed gharars being paired with plain or chikan white tops. You can go for a white crop top, a full sleeves collar kurti, a sleeveless shirt or an off shoulder blouse. A white upper will allow your gharara to take centre stage and get all the attention.

A short waistcoat/ jacket

We love short waist coats being used by Rang Ja. You can use a plain block colour to add a pop of colour to your white kurti or use embellished jackets.

Scarf it up

If the jacket is not for you, you can add a dab of colour and a heavy dose of tradition to your look buy accessorizing with colourful scarves, depending on the colour combination of your gharara. Here are some of the scarves we love:

1. Sapphire, 2.Rang Ja,  3.Khaadi

Do the Shoe

If you are going ethnic, then give it your best by sporting some traditional khussas. How about completing your old-school look with one of these beauties!

1. Jootishooti, 2. Soma, 3. Chapter 13

You need something equally traditional to carry your phone and lipstick, don’t you? Here are some bags with local patterns to indulge in.
